I have (so far) been unable to send any email attachments via my new 6315 when using GPRS. I know that my mail accounts all work (I control the mail server, btw). I can send and receive messages (and can even download attachments).
When I attempt to send a message with an attachment (over 1K in size) inbox will stall on 'Sending Mail' for about five minutes before failing.
It somewhat limits the usefulness of the camera if I cannot send emails of the pictues.
Can anyone confirm or deny this behavior on their phones? Thanks in advance.

Btw: This ONLY happens with GPRS, not WiFi.
Any suggestions appreciated.
I haven't tried to send an attachment but I can test this out for you within the next day or so. The problem could be a bug on the client side (6315) or it might be a timeout issue between the 6315 smtp client and the server because of the slow gprs speed.
In any case, I'll give this a try but it won't be today but I can possibly get to it tomorrow. I'll have the ability to track the complete transaction between client and server so that I can see exactly what is going on between them and that will give us accurate detail and information if it turns out to be a common issue.
I just sent a pic from my camera to my hotmail address using GPRS. This is so user friendly. I dont know if any of you have tried to send an email from the default inbox but its awesome. Give it a shot!! Did not freeze went right through.

I am having the very same problem. It may very well be a smtp timeout issue, but it seems like it shouldn't be THAT slow. I was trying to send jsut a 32k attachement file last night and it never went until i came home and turned on the wifi. Even if we are getting half of dialup speeds, we should be able to send a small attachment before we get a timeoout.
Curious to see if we can get some sort of resolution on this one.
I spent the majority of yesterday dealing with this issue. I have yet to get an answer from T-Mobile, but I have learned something...
They seem to not value their customers at all. I have NEVER seen technical support *this* bad. Not even from Microsoft. I was transferred around the world, and got representatives named "zoe" (in Canada), "juan" from ('I cannot say'), and Fayeed and Hussein from India (they claimed 'somewhere in North America').
I also got several different answers, such as "It's your mail server's fault", "We only support attachments via MMS", "Your data plan doesn't include that", "Your service isn't active yet", "You must use the MyEmail service", and many others. No one seems to have a clue.
Despite 8 calls, I cannot get any type of resolution or a return call.
Truthfully, I regret moving from my XDA1 to the 6315. I am likely going to switch back. Actually, I am going to start looking at other carriers, T-Mobile should be taught a lesson for oursourcing their tech support.
Has anyone out there had a *good* experience with their "wireless data group"? Secondarily, has anyone found someone at a high level there who speaks english, and is not named "Habib"?
Sorry for the ranting, but I have always thought well of T-Mobile, and yesterday was pretty hard to tolerate.

Yes, I've had good experiences with T-Mobile tech support. I have not had trouble with language although I will admit that there have been a few times when it made things a tad more difficult. I've also had that experience when speaking with people who claimed that english was their first language but their regional accent made that questionable.
Your references to a name of obvious origin is simply ugly on its face.

If you are having issues with the device timing out while sending attachments, you may want to verify your GPRS network settings as discussed in this thread. I had the same problems until I adusted them. If your settings are using any "wap." at the beginning, it will time out while sending and receiving mail, especailly attachments.
I hope this helps.

I appreciate your suggestion, and I have made the changes you suggested.
Unfortunately, it was to no avail. However, it seems that I have made enough noise that T-Mobile is having an actual engineer return my call. I hope to have some type of an answer by the end of the day today.
I had a similar issue regarding the wap/internet2 previously with my xda.
Homer, it's not the issue. Mine has been set to internet2 since day one. I am beginning to believe it's a client issue. I have the exact same problem, only one difference. I am using MyEmail to push 3 addresses to the phone. Incoming works great. Outgoing works fine, except for attachments. I just did a controlled test here at work. I get a fantastic signal here. I sent one short email, no attachment. It worked fine. I tried sending an email with a pic attachment, no go. Just stalled on logging in. Put another small email in the outbox with the other one. Stalled on logging in. Deleted the one with the attachment, the one without went quickly. It got logged in, sent it and logged off in about 30 seconds. With an attachment, it never gets past logging in.
If you don't get an answer, Uphid, from the engineer on this, I may try my hand at the data group tomorrow. Thanks for staying with it. This is the one BIG issue for me. Few other little problems, but this one is really annoying.
Your description was absolutely identical with what I have been experiencing and testing. I'm glad I'm not alone on this one.
I am currently waiting on a call back regarding it. Should anyone wish to mention it on a subsequent call, my trouble ticket # is 306874.
The most helpful person I have gotten thus far has been 'Hussein'. He seems to be a top level supervisor in wireless data. He admitted that almost no one can give a good answer in these items yet. I would advise anyone dealing with support to escalate as quickly as possible, as most of the staff have not had training yet.
I asked a t-mobile rep today about sending attachments. Her manager's response was unfavorable. This is important to me as well. Looking forward to your solution.

If not, can I cancel my ISP and will T-mobile be sufficient for email? Providing attachments can be sent and received.
I don't mean to be rude, but I think the answer to that is obvious since 95% of us can't send an e-mail larger than 2K! The one who finds the solution to this one will be a hero!

Let's make sure we clarify this. Its not just emails over 2k. I can send large emails all day long. It's strictly emails with attachments.
I think we need to adress on other issue here. I think it's important for all who post here with this problem to identify whether they have POP3 addresses setup manually in the Inbox settings or if they are using MyEmail to get emails pushed. I am having this specific problem with the MyEmail service.
I am having another issue with POP addresses setup manually. As soon as it sends, I receive a notice from "system administrator" that says recipient invalid. not true. This does not matter what address I send it to. It them proceeds to move a copy of it to the drafts folder. Any ideas on this one? Anyone send mail to a direct POP account, without going through the myemail.t-mobile.com server?

I am too impatient to test a large e-mail with no attachment. (although I suppose I could just forward one to myself and thus eliminate the typing.) So, yes, anything with an attachment is not going through over GRPS. When I am on Wi-Fi, it goes right through.
As for the setup, I was setup using MyEmail but I changed it yesterday to eliminate that and go to a straight POP configuration. It seems to work better using this setup - a bit quicker.
I have tried the whole wap vs. internet2 vs internet3 to no avail. I have tried all the different outgoing servers I can think of, and it certainly isn't that because I can send over an 802.11b with no changes to the outgoing server. It is simply attachments with GPRS. Does this clarify my specific issue? Hope this helps. What on earth could it be?
Your description clarifies and confirms the same issue a lot of us are having. Tmobile knows about it. As far as I am concerned, I beleive it is a firmware problem in the HP's, as I think my testing has ruled out any other explanation.
It somewhat limits the usefulness of the camera; for those of us who want no part of MMS (at $0.25 each).
I am having a different problem with email. I finally got myemail setup. This morning there were 3 new emails in one of the accounts. Two had attachments. I selected the option to download full. Afterwards, things are really messed up. If I select the second email, it opens the first email. If I select the third, it opens the second. The first opens one that isn't in the list.
