Yea, you heard that right.

The only suggestion that I can give you is to read the 'Happy EVDO Sprint users!!!' thread, all 40-something pages, in which you will learn that you need to learn it yourself with only vague hints about how to learn to do it yourself...

Which reminds me I need to find a prl editor...

Second... no, nobody knows about the update. Some people talk smack, but nobody really knows anything. Its all just rumors at this point. (And with some of the mean-spirited people here, they could be spreading the rumors just to *uck with people).
Not true, some people DO know something, and aren't out to F with anybody.

I just want to know...
Has anyone actually gotten a PPC-6600 or PPC-6601 with Sprint to connect to EV-DO and actually get 500, 600, 800k/sec... whatever it is!!??

I just want someone confirming it has been done, so I dont get my hopes up.

YES, it's been done, many times by many people, unfortunately just not with an "official" update, however it does prove the device works just fine on the Sprint EVDO network, at EVDO speeds.

Re: ppc 6600 upgrade coming

Bearxor - Need I remind you of the beginning of this thread as written below? It was a waste of bandwidth and stress of the typing fingers from its genesis.

the upgrade they say will allow you to use a sd wifi card. i am told the 6600 has wifi but it is disabled? is this true?

Augie...

Read the Happy EV-DO, Sprint Users! thread like suggested. The hack upgrade disables incoming calls due to how we are getting on the network. Secondly, no one will hand over the PRL as we are under NDA not to release it.

So does that mean that if I get mine working tonight Sprint will call me up and tell me that they'll bitch slap me if I give it out to anyone else? What do I get for cooperating with them?

I haven't done it myself, but have seen EVDO speeds on dSlreports by 660x testers. And, while I haven't checked dslreports for a while, some of the userids of people achieving EVDO speeds would be quite recognizable to regulars on this forum.

What I was saying was...

That I am in the process of modifying a PRL now. It's a lot of trial and error, but I'm getting the hang. Unfortunately i lose my PC until Wednesday, so I won't be able to work on it until then.

So what I was saying is, that if I get my PRL working, will Sprint call me up and place me under some kind of NDA? Why would they to begin with, it doesn't make much sense... Unless Sprint isn't the one with the NDA, and its something like SPI labs working on their own unofficial update.

You aren't bound by any NDA if you hack your prl, that's utter nonsense.

Ok, so the whole 'We can't release our hacked PRL's because we are under NDA' excuse used by some forum members is just BS then.

Thanks

I don't think that is what they are saying.

There is some causality relationship going on here.
"You aren't bound by any NDA if you hack your prl, that's utter nonsense." - Means that possessing a hacked PRL does NOT mean you automatically have an NDA.

It does not disqualify someone from having an NDA! Some of the people who have NDAs might or might not have hacked PRLs. But the PRL is not the initiator of the NDA.

It's kind of like these people who are using circular logic to say that there will not be an EVDO upgrade. They denigrate those who claim to have real information and support their claims with unverifiable phone calls to people who probably wouldn't know what was happening even if they were contacted. And IF the people did know something, THEY are probably under NDAs not to talk about it until authorized.

Saying that an entire group of statements is "BS" just because you are told that the PRL is not the cause of the NDA is misunderstanding the causality, to say the least.

Rant over.

Ok, I get what everyone is saying. I know that if I hack my PRL, that I am not bound under a NDA unless I agree to one.

My problem is with the whole 'holier-than-thou' attitude by some people on this forum about getting help to people who want to modify their PRL's. Rather than helping people out and answering questions as to how to do it, the excuses in this forum went from 'You're not technically inclined enough' to 'We're under NDA not to release our hacked PRL's.'

I, for one, learn a lot faster by doing rather than reading. So while I am reading about PRLs and how to modify them, it would be a hell of a lot faster for me to grasp the concept if I had a hacked one and a unhacked one. This way I could peruse them myself and see the differences. Anytime anyone asks for it, they are shut out.

So I guess my question was, is the hacked PRL the initiator of an NDA, and I guess the answer is no. It just seems... odd... that anyone who publicly lets anyone know they are on EVDO is under a NDA... Kind of feels like I want to call shens on the whole 'NDA' thing and chalk it up to people being elitist *******s.

To translate, the story as I understand it is that is is not just the hacked PRL. What they have working is only useful to prove the point that you can get EVDO on a 6600. The hacked code does not allow your phone to work normally. Consensus is to wait for the update.

Thank you Captain Obvious!

Well, obvious to anyone who's read all 48 pages of the EVDO thread... Sorry if that comes off as sounding mean, but I really meant it that way.

I understand that what they have working is only a proof of concept that EVDO does in fact work on the 6600, and that it does kill functions of the actual phone. However, for people, like myself, who want to learn more about it and who use like 50 voice minutes a month, and switching out a PRL is no more or less work than it takes to soft-reset your device to use a WiFi card, should they dangle they keys in front of our face and then pull back and say 'No, no, no, we're sorry but you cant have that...'?

Exclamation Quit begging

If you take the time to read the Happy EV-DO thread, all the neccessary info is in there to piece together. We WILL NOT hand out the PRL for many reasons that others can't seem to understand. PMing those of us who have it will not work. I get PMs all the time saying that they won't hand it out and they are programmers, etc. The answer is NO. The phone does not work completely with the mods and we are not going to become the helpdesk for those who can't understand this. In the other thread we have been down this road before and to start the arguement here when you have been pointed to the right place is just pure laziness. Read the other thread, get over the hang up of it being too much to read. What do you think you have to do to make these mods? point and click? NO, you have to read. We are not going to hand feed all of those who claim to have the know how on how to do it. If you do then you can figure it out quite easily. I explained the changes made in that other thread.

Now go read or sit and wait. Your choice.
