scratched graffiti area
Has anyone experienced the scratched graffiti area as a result of normal use with the stylus that came w/the phone. I checked my stylus to see if there are any frays at the tip that could cause the sctraching, none that i can see, even at 5x.
Are there any suggestions on getting the graffiti 'screen' replaced?

i have a scuff that seems to get bigger by the day...almost like a layer of the graffiti board is chipping off...annoying considering the phone is 2 months old

yeah i nicked it using the standard stylus one day. SUCKED. i put a protector over it and have used a protector ever since. The scratch was small and i put the protector on right away so i can write now and hardly notice the scratch. A few months ago the protector ripped right where the scratch was, appearently it was catch the spot of the scratch and eventually the protector wore out, so i just replaced the protector.

tbone,
that's exactly what happened to mine. I've had my phone since late august. I'm not sure what causes it but it just basically sucks. I'm going to try to get it fixed through sprint, but we'll see how well that goes.

perhaps i didn't make myself clear-put a screen protector over your scratched graffiti pad and you won't even notice it's scratched-at least i don't...or try to get it swapped under a warrentee replacement-but i'll bet sprint says it's a user fault and they're not responsible. but let us know what happens!

i use the i300 protectors from curcuitcity.com($10) and cut them in 2 pieces-one for my screen and one for my graffiti pad!

parker, let me know how it goes. If the screen protector doesn't make graffiti easier then I'm gonna go to sprint and see what I can swing since I've had the phone for only 2 months. I also have the insurance, but I'd rather not use one of my allowed replacements or whatever for that...or pay the deductible

Can you use NewPen or something that will allow direct graffiti on the screen rather than the graffiti area?

i turned on "command bar support", then when you have a text box you'll see a little box in the lower right hand corner...darken it to enable NewPen

I somehow managed to get a scratch on my graffiti area as well. Was driving me nuts -- it really affected the accuracy of graffiti writing. Putting a "protector" on it fixed it -- and in fact improved it! The protector is more "tacky" than the original graffiti area. The stylus doesn't glide as freely, which turns out to be good. Sort of like how a pencil or marker doesn't slide like a ballpoint over a sheet of paper. I find my accuracy now is better than before the scratch.

This is my solution..
I wanted to use Taptype (a graffiti extension that allows graffiti use as normal along with a modified keyboard for the graffiti area using an overlay). What I did to be able to see the graffiti area beneath for the soft buttons, digitizer recals, and graffiti use was to print the overlay onto a transparency film (for overhead projector) and then cover the transparency film with a screen protector (to keep the ink from being smudged or wearing off) and then cut the solution to size for the graffiti area. The results were a highly tactile and responsive graffiti area that still retains the appearance of a new area with improved strangth and resistance to scratches that works wonderfully. In fact the transparency film could be used alone, cut a little bigger than the area (this is what I did) and slid under the surrounding bevel area for a complete and semipermanent solution for covering and protecting the graffiti area. Hope this gives someone help or some ideas in protecting their graffiti area also.

Got my boxwave screen protector yesterday. I didn't even bother with the graffiti pad protector now that I'm using NewPen, but it's worth the 15 bucks for piece of mind that I'm not scratching up the screen. It's a good fit....recommended.

I went to the Sprint store today with my phone. They said I scratched it myself and would do nothing about it. My phone is still under warranty, but I did not buy insurance. Where do i get a grafitti area protector?

You can get screen protectors at most electronics stores (in the PDA section). I live in a town without a lot of options, so I went to Staples. I think I got the Palm brand protectors for the Tungsten T (because you usually cannot find I500 protectors) and cut them to size.
Personally, I put screen protectors on my grafitti area AND on my screen for extra protection.
P.S. If you do a search on "screen protectors" you will probably get lots of recommendations for different types.

you didn't hear this from me, but you can always put insurance on the phone and get a replacement for just $39 if the scratched graffiti pad bothers you that much...
