The same way version 1 was obtained: buy a Tungsten W (for v.2.1) or T3 (for v.3).

I'm going to go pick up them both today at OfficeMax, and see how well the browsers perform versus v.1.

I'm assuming that you are going to return 2 units after "evaluating" the software?

$419 for the Tungsten W

$399 for the Tungsten T3

Total of $818 for a software upgrade is not a very good deal...LOL

Let us all know how your "research/evaluation" goes.

Thanks,

RJ

No go on 2.1 or 3.0 versions. When trying to start up the 2.1 version of Web Browser Pro, it says "not compatible with this device", and when trying to fire up version 3, it says "must have OS 5 to run this app".

Looks like we top off at 1.1 (from the Tungsten T2 CD), for Browser Pro. Ce la vie.

Any idea what the differences are between 1.1 and 1.01? Do cookies work better?

I didn't use 1.01 long enough to know the difference. But at least 1.1 seems a little faster (but maybe it's just my perception).

And I think the caching is a little better than before. Not sure yet.

So, does anyone have the URL for Web Pro 1.1 (it seems the URLs for 1.01 and 1.0 are contained in this thread only).

If not, would someone mind emailing it to me? gary@lerhaupt.com

Thanks.

OK, given that Palm has developed this web browser for the Palm OS, and it's currently not something they sell, I don't see my posting a link to download the 1.1 version as a problem (unless Palm bugs me about it, but I doubt it).

All I ask is you post your review of the differences between 1.01 and 1.1, for the benefit of the community. Also, for those industrious hackers out there, I've posted v2.1 as well, although currently it won't run on our i500's (forget about v.3... it requires OS 5).

http://homepage.mac.com/headcase/FileSharing31.html

And while visiting my site, enjoy the video clips (and yes, they *all* are real commercials).

And for those who don't know what Web Browser Pro is, and you want a quick intro:

Wow.. I really like this browser. Much better then blazer. I can finally reach a few of the sites that I couldn't before.

Also... the new version of Yahoo web mail.

hmm.. now I wonder how it will compare to Blazer 3.0?

Thanks for the link, headcase. I took 1.01 off and installed 1.1 on my 500. You asked for a comparisson. For the purposes of the webs sites I visit, I really can't tell a difference. Perhaps there are many difference that I cannot recognize at this time. If anyone can point out differences, I'd like to hear them.

I will keep 1.1 as long as it doesn't get buggy. Surely there are differences, whether I see them or not which will make it a more stable platform.

Thanks again, and thanks for those entertaining commercials.

unfortunately palm pro also doesn't allow you to view animated gifs. this would be a cool feature if only to allow you to see current weather radar animation. oh well.

Angry

Bummer...

The business connection website Http://bc.sprintpcs.com does not work with this browser.

If I put in a username and password and click "sign in", it just brings me back to the login screen.

When you upgrade from version 1.01 to 1.1, do your bookmarks transfer? I would sure hate to re-enter them all again.

Thanks for any input.

Yes, they do (bookmarks are kept in a separate database).

I've been using 1.1 for a couple weeks now, after having used 1.01 for about a month. So far I haven't noticed any differences. I was hoping that cookies would work better with 1.1, but as far as I can see they are still inconsistant. Anyone else seeing this? Some of my cookies must work, otherwise the sites would not operate properly. And unfortunately there doesn't appear to be a way to look at your list of cookies, so I can't even verify that ones exist for the sites I'm having problems with.

So, while I am loving WebPro (it's my favorite browser at this point), I'm still looking for the "ultimate" browser. And part of the qualification is that it must be recognized by SnapperMail, because much of my browsing is on vBulletin boards and I like to tap on the new reply notification URL's that take me right to the new posts in my browser of choice.

Anybody else who does this is probably aware that every single SM supported browser has drawbacks when it comes to vBulletin boards (not just this one... ALL of them!). If you are one of those people, and you have some tips for getting around those problems, please let me know!

That's a good point about the cookies. I wonder if they're stored on the host?

It looks like in the help info that cookies are stored on the Palm. It's weird there's not any way to delete them though. Blazer has this option.
